Within the new reality created by Martin Luther’s reforms, new church movements spring up all over the place, but getting support and cooperation is much more elusive.
Timeline of Events:
- December 11, 1518 – Ulrich Zwingli is appointed priest in Zurich
- 1524 – Bernhard Rothmann receives a Master of Arts from Mainz University
- January 21, 1525 – Conrad Grebel baptizes George Blaurock in Zurich
- January 5, 1527 – Felix Manz is executed as an Anabaptist martyr in Zurich
- February 24, 1527 – Anabaptists gather in Schleitheim to work out shared convictions
- 1529 – Rothmann appointed assistant priest at St. Mauritz church
- October 1-4, 1529 – German Protestant leaders gather in Marburg to work out shared convictions
Thanks again Will. This was slightly more familiar content, at least to those of us who have done some study on topic. An interesting sub theme is anger. I enjoyed Robin’s laughter, probably along with all of us thinking about Luther’s possible OCD. It almost stands to reason that, therefore he eventually became impatient with the Anabaptists because they were becoming unruly – never good news for someone who is a control freak! I also appreciated your light hearted comment about today’s Lutherans. Most of them more open to Anabaptists now, than a eg Protestant fundamentalist Evangelical non-denominationalists.
